Electives

Rosa Parks K8 offers several electives for our middle school students. 

Cultural Studies & College Prep: Students explore diverse cultures, identities, and global perspectives while building the academic, organizational, and study skills needed for success in high school, college, and future careers. The course emphasizes critical thinking, collaboration, and goal setting.

Music: Students develop their musical skills through singing, playing instruments, music appreciation, and performance. The course encourages creativity, teamwork, and confidence while exploring a variety of musical styles and cultures.

Nutrition: Students learn the principles of healthy eating, nutrition, food safety, and wellness. The course helps students make informed food choices while exploring the connection between nutrition, physical health, and lifelong well-being.

Student GovernmentStudents develop leadership and civic engagement skills by planning school activities, promoting student voice, and serving the school community. The course emphasizes collaboration, communication, responsibility, and service.

Yearbook: Students work together to design, write, photograph, and publish the school's yearbook. The course develops skills in journalism, photography, graphic design, interviewing, project management, and teamwork.

Leadership: Students build leadership, communication, and teamwork skills while planning events, fostering school spirit, and promoting a positive school culture. The course emphasizes service, responsibility, collaboration, and personal growth.

Robotics: Students design, build, and program robots while learning engineering, coding, and problem-solving skills. Through hands-on projects, students apply STEM concepts to complete challenges and work collaboratively.

Psychology: Students are introduced to the scientific study of human behavior and mental processes. Topics include learning, memory, emotions, personality, relationships, and decision-making, helping students better understand themselves and others.

Design & ModelingStudents use the engineering design process to solve real-world problems through creative design and innovation. Using modeling software and hands-on activities, students develop skills in design thinking, prototyping, and engineering.
